Welcome to SkoyteBasen

SkoyteBasen is a passion project in speed skating statistics, showcasing international competition results going more than a hundred years back in time.

The charts on the right are two examples of fun statistics we're able to make with the data from our database. They show the historical progression of 5000m results based on a yearly average.

It all started as an offline data collection project in the 1990s, but has now taken the leap into the online sphere. The data is gathered from various sources by longtime speed skating enthusiast Odd Fredriksen, while the development of the website is handled by his son John-Erling Holmenes Fredriksen.

Data is now updated until 2025, and we're currently reviewing and finessing the presentation of competitions as formats have changed a bit throughout the years.
